Right now, as I type this, I'm rocking out to....

Cyndi Lauper.

Oh, when you were mine,
Used to let you wear all of my clothes,
You were so fine,
And baby that's the reason that it hurt me so...

Discuss.

yeah, but... by muchagecko (4.00 / 3) #1 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 01:34:47 PM EST
unisex clothes were so much a part of the 70's and 80's. It just wasn't even a thing.

If you're trying to imply that I am now, or have in the past, worn leg-warmers, I'm gonna have to hurt you.

You lived in the 80's by wiredog (4.00 / 2) #4 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 02:12:50 PM EST
If you didn't wear leg warmers, you pegged your jeans and turned up the collars on your polo shirts.

I did none of these things. by nightflameblue (4.00 / 3) #5 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 02:30:53 PM EST
Maybe that's why I don't scoff at the eighties the way all my contemporaries do.

Not really. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #22 Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 07:43:19 AM EST
At least, I'm not embarrassed by anything I did.  I'd still have my big hair and be wearing black t-shirts and jeans if I didn't start losing my hair and need to work for a living.  The only embarrassment I feel is for people like Donny Baker, who believe they can make up in side and back length for the missing portion on top of their head.

Though I've got pictures somewhere of AFKS all done up to go see the Misfits that he made me swear on my life I'd never show anyone. Luckily, my life's not that important to me, so I've been passing them around to anybody that knows him. I should really scan them in sometime.

I didn't even notice that there was an "80's aesthetic" until I started writing "The Pains" a few years ago. It's set in 1985, so I had to do some research. I can't wait until 2013, when I can find out what the 90's looked like.

Dude! Even I wore leg warmers. Black ones. by greyrat (4.00 / 2) #8 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 02:50:51 PM EST
Over my blue jeans. In October. On campus. They belonged to my GF of the time and she thought they looked sexy on me. Remember, anything for a good hot lay...

Just so you know -  I'm going to forever think of you as looking a little like Olivia Newton John...

I will admit though, the one time I let a girlfriend pick out clothes for me I ended up looking like a goth smurf.

I do have (or had) her legs and butt. by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #11 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 03:01:24 PM EST
Sadly (or fortunately) not so much on top.

BTW, the date for my legwarmer winter was 1982.

1982? I'd have to forgive you. There's little a man won't do for sex at that age.

Happy happy songs.

Saw them in concert once. by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #9 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 02:54:55 PM EST
They were a great live band.

I've always thought Cyndi Lauper was badly underrated as a singer, if she hadn't gotten caught in that downward spiral of bad movies and pro wrestling she could have been somebody.

People just don't appreciate psychotically twisted song lyrics.

Amongst the hardcore/br00talz crowd? by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #17 Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 04:18:06 PM EST
Cindi Lauper is still seen as the best singer to come from the eighties. It's the one scrap of decency left in that crowd of bitchy/whiney guitar slingers.

it is not possible to rock out to Cyndi Lauper. Perhaps what you're doing is bopping out?
